I've spent most of the week repairing computers with fellow volunteer Alon. We've managed to salvage a couple more machines for UAC. These are already prooving useful.
I taught my first lesson last night on Networking. The responce was positive so I hope the rest will continue in the same way. I hope to teach the computer teachers the basics of Networking, Webdesign and Photoshop so that they in turn can offer more courses at the computer room...
We have had several very productive meetings regarding all sorts of issue and areas at UAC. Noteably the Youth Club, Computer Room/Internet Room and Marketing. Cameroon has little to no marketing or advertising, mainly beer and mobile companies. Therefore the market is left open to really make the organisation and what it offers known.
Anna has been working in the school trying to understand the methods and ways of teaching that are used here. It is not an easy transfer from the UK to Cameroon in regards to teaching style and I'm sure she will have alot of knowledge and experiance to bring to the school and its staff.
I am off to Doula today to look at the prices of equipment for the new Internet Cafe that UAC are trying to build. The new computers from America are closer and closer to being shipped so we are hopeful of thier arrival within the next month or two. Another obstical to overcome is a good switch to join all the computers together. I have been told that the quality needed is hard to find in Cameroon, so we need to come up with another idea. If any of you bright sparks out there can think of a cheap option of getting such equipment out here, please let us know!
Again, sorry for the lack of images. The engineers are coming today to fix the satelitte at UAC so I will hopefully be adding some colour to the site in the next few days.
